Trips We Offer
Single Day Trips
If you just have time for one day of fishing this is a fantastic way to experience what Montana’s rivers have to offer. Whether it’s just you, or a group of people, we’ll handle all the details and provide the gear to get you started. Lunch and non-alcoholic beverages are provided.
Half Day Trips
For those limited on time, we can set you up with a guide for just a few hours of time on the river. This is also a great option for those who want to take kids fishing or just want to see what fly fishing is all about. Since the day is so short, lunch is not included.
Multi Day Trips
This is what most of our traveling anglers do. If you’re going to come all the way to Montana, you might as well stay and fish a few days, right? Many choose to fish at least 3 days, but it’s fairly common for us to set groups up for a full week or more of guided fishing.
Custom Trips
What we do best is working with our anglers to customize the details of their trip for the best experience possible. We often package our fishing trips with lodging or transportation and we are happy to get you pointed in the right direction when it comes to all of the details of your trip. If you can dream it up, it’s probably worth contacting us to see if we can make it happen.
Rivers we guide
The Missouri River
This is a large tailwater with abundant hatches and 35 miles of access from Holter Dam to the town of Cascade. “The Mighty MO,” is our home water and where we spend most of the fishing season. We love the diverse and year-round season this river provides as it gives us the ability to offer different experiences for the beginner and experienced angler alike. The robust rainbow and brown trout populations of around 7,000 per mile provide ample opportunities for the casual angler while multiple hatches offer some of the most challenging technical dry fly fishing in Montana. Most of our guests prefer to stay near the town of Craig, but this river is easily fished out of Helena as well.
The Land of Giants
A small river section on the Missouri River between Upper Holter Lake and Hauser Dam, this area boasts some of the best rainbow trout fishing in the west. “LOG” is fished with one of our USGS licensed captains from a motorized jet boat and is one of the best opportunities to hook into some of the largest and hardest fighting fish around. It’s not uncommon for anglers to see multiple fish in the mid-twenty inch range and occasionally approaching thirty inches. Many of our guests enjoy a day or two in this river section as an add on while fishing The Missouri out of Craig.
The Blackfoot River
One of the most scenic and rewarding places to fish in Montana, “The Foot,” is a place we like to fish during the early summer months. This river is home to a good population of native westslope cutthroat trout that eagerly rise to large dry flies. We tend to fish this river from mid-June through late July when there are various hatches of stoneflies and terrestrials available to the trout. Most of our anglers take the hour drive to the upper stretches of the river from Helena, but the small town of Ovando or Missoula can be used as a home base as well.
Small Creeks and Lesser Known Waters
Some things are just better left off the internet, but we like to spend some of the season traveling around the Helena area fishing different waters that are harder to find on a map. Depending on the season and river flows we might be floating in a raft or wading some of these streams. The hardest part about fishing these places is knowing the right time to be there and you can leave that part up to us. Many or our guests plan their trip around a day of fishing one of these places and pair it with a few days of float fishing on the reliable Missouri.
